This summer, while sheltering in place during the first stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, I came to realize that for the last few years I've not really been living, but simply existing.
It's time for a change.
I have always had a bit of wanderlust. There is just so much of the world to discover and explore! This desire to see and discover has led me all over the world, it even drew me to England to earn my MA.
But in the end I've always stuck pretty close to home, always coming back to Minnesota, always playing it safe. This year, I decided I wanted something more, something different.
What does that change look like? Anyone who knows me will agree that I tend to have a "go big or don't bother" approach to most things I do . . .
So, I bought an RV.
That's right. I bought a house on wheels! (Or a house-car, as one young student put it).
Honestly? I'm beyond terrified. I have no idea what I'm doing. But that's not going to stop me. Instead, I'm going to step outside of my comfort zone and see America.
2020 has shown us all that the world is a messy place, full of uncertainty and the unknown. It has also shown us that living and connecting with others - our family, our friends, and those who we think are completely different but really aren't so much - is what makes life worth living. I want to embrace that connection, even as I journey on the road alone.
But I won't really be alone. I will have two furry companions: Benjamin and Peter.

Benjamin Bunny (above)
These two sassy babies will keep me on my toes and life interesting.
This journey is going to be amazing, exciting, terrifying, and at times messy. I want to share that journey with you. This isn't going to be a glossy view of life living in an RV; I will make mistakes, I will have disasters (hopefully none too big), but on the way I hope to learn about the world and discover parts of myself and America I didn't know existed.
I don't know what this adventure has in store for me, but I can't wait to find out!
